The University of Portland will close at 2:20 p.m. Tuesday due to snowfall, according to an email sent out by Vice President for University Operations Jim Ravelli.

The National Weather Service put out a winter storm warning that will stay in effect until 4 a.m Wednesday morning.

The NWS predicts that a much heavier snowfall will occur later into the evening, causing three to seven inches of snow to accumulate in the greater Portland area.

The advisory warned against driving later into the evening. If students or faculty do have to face the roads, they should use caution and keep an extra flashlight, food and water in their vehicles in case of an emergency.

Multiple students said that when Ravelli sent out an email about the closure at 12:45 p.m., students in The Commons erupted in cheers and clapping.
