In a Feb. 20 email to the UP community, Associate Vice President for Student Affairs and Dean of Students Colin Stewart and Vice President for Student Affairs and Inclusive Excellence Alvin Sturdivant announced the launch of a new university website titled “Support for Immigrant and Undocumented Members of the University of Portland Community.”
How students are celebrating the Year of the Horse
As the end of winter nears, some students are celebrating the beginning of a new lunar calendar by staying in-touch with culture and family. The Lunar New Year is a 15-day long holiday that coincides with the first new moon of the lunar calendar. In 2026, the first day falls on Feb. 17.

Every November, the Vietnamese Student Association (UPVSA) travels to Seattle for the Turkey Bowl — an ultimate frisbee tournament and banquet bringing together 11 Vietnamese Student Associations (VSAs) across the Pacific Northwest.
‘I definitely use my scooter less now:’ Students react to the electric scooter walkway ban 3 weeks later
On Sept. 29, Campus Safety began enforcing a policy banning motorized scooters and skateboards on campus walkways, according to an email from Michael McNerney, director of Campus Safety. The policy enforcement has sparked debate among students, some of whom celebrate the removal of scooters from campus sidewalks. But for student-athletes, who appear to make up a number of electric scooter riders on campus and rely on scooters to get to class, practice and even grocery stores, the scooter ban means adjusting to a new frontier: the road.
Health and Counseling Center to host COVID and flu vaccination clinic
The Health and Counseling Center (HCC), in partnership with Safeway, will be offering a flu and COVID-19 vaccination clinic for students, staff and faculty at Clark Library on Sept. 30 from 11 a.m. - 3 p.m., according to a Sept. 23 email from the HCC.
