Women’s basketball will host the Sam Houston State Bearkats in the first round of the Women’s National Invitational Tournament (WNIT) on March 19.

This is the program’s fourth time qualifying for the WNIT and fourteenth postseason appearance overall. In their last WNIT bid in 2022, Portland earned their first ever home playoff victory against Colorado State

The Pilots played in the Women’s Basketball Invitation Tournament (WBIT) last postseason, beating Stanford and Seton Hall — their first ever victory over a Big East team — before falling to Villanova in the quarterfinals.

Portland finished the regular season 18-14 with a 11-7 West Coast Conference (WCC) record, finishing top five in the conference for the sixth time in seven years under head coach Michael Meek. In the WCC tournament, they moved past Washington State but ended their run with a loss to Oregon State

If the Pilots defeat the Bearkats, they will face the Lamar Cardinals in the second round. The second round will be played from March 22-24, though the exact date and site of the game is not yet determined.
