Men’s basketball upsets No. 6 Gonzaga 87-80

Men’s basketball handed the No. 6 Gonzaga Bulldogs a stunning first-conference loss of the season, and only their second loss overall, in a 87-80 victory on Feb. 4. The victory is Portland’s first Top 10 win in school history and first win over a ranked opponent since their last victory over Gonzaga in 2014.

Pioneering Pilot Joe Etzel leaves grand legacy

Long after he coached his final game, Joe Etzel could still be found on the University of Portland baseball diamond, helping maintain the field he loved. Etzel — a former UP student-athlete, baseball and basketball coach, and athletic director (AD) — died at 87 on Dec. 28, 2025, surrounded by family in Portland. He left behind one of the most storied and significant legacies in Pilots history.

The founders were influenced by John Locke’s social contract theory, which says that when a government infringes on the rights of its people, it is the people’s right to resist. Men’s soccer to host second round of NCAA tournament

Men’s soccer punched their ticket as the No. 8 seed in the NCAA tournament on Nov. 17. The Pilots ended the season with a 13-1-3 overall and 6-1-2 West Coast Conference (WCC) record, closing the season with 1-0 shutout against the Gaels on Nov. 15. Portland will host the second round of the tournament, where they will face the winner of UC Irvine vs. Denver on Nov. 23.

How NCAA roster limit changes affects UP athletics

As a result of the House v. NCAA settlement, the Division I Board of Directors adopted changes to roster limits effective July 1...While there are new roster limits for several UP sports, these changes will be most visible in cross country and track and field, according to Senior Associate Athletic Director Jason Brough.
