UP is nearing the end of another semester. While this means saying goodbye to assignments and extracurriculars, it also entails a bittersweet close to the fall sports that have motivated campus throughout this stressful term. To celebrate the term’s grand finale, reporters Rieve Randall, Kaeden Souki and Audrey Day have evaluated the performance of each fall sport.
Men’s soccer advances to quarterfinal, beats Grand Canyon 1-0
Men’s soccer will advance to the quarterfinals of the NCAA Tournament after defeating the Grand Canyon Lopes 1-0 on Nov. 29. In the quarterfinal, Portland will remain at home to face Furman on Dec. 5. There will be free entry for students.
Men’s soccer to host second round of NCAA tournament
Men’s soccer punched their ticket as the No. 8 seed in the NCAA tournament on Nov. 17. The Pilots ended the season with a 13-1-3 overall and 6-1-2 West Coast Conference (WCC) record, closing the season with 1-0 shutout against the Gaels on Nov. 15. Portland will host the second round of the tournament, where they will face the winner of UC Irvine vs. Denver on Nov. 23.

How NCAA roster limit changes affects UP athletics
As a result of the House v. NCAA settlement, the Division I Board of Directors adopted changes to roster limits effective July 1...While there are new roster limits for several UP sports, these changes will be most visible in cross country and track and field, according to Senior Associate Athletic Director Jason Brough.

Men’s soccer fell to No. 9 in the United Soccer Coaches Top 25 poll on Oct. 28, after earning their first loss of the season. The Pilots lost 1-0 against the Santa Clara Broncos on Oct. 25.
No. 6 Pilots ward off No. 12 Toreros in conference match, win 2-1
Men’s soccer earned their second conference victory on Oct. 10 in a 2-1 battle against San Diego. They are now 2-0-1 in West Coast Conference (WCC) play with a 9-0-2 overall record.
New student organization, Pilots Black Student-Athletes, supports Black student-athletes and assists local community
Since 2021, the Black Student-Athlete Summit has been on the radar of Senior Associate Athletic Director Glenna Andrews. When the university received sufficient funding from student-athlete support donations in 2024, Andrews was finally able to send a cohort of eight students to attend the summit in Los Angeles.
Pilots men’s soccer ranks No. 1 in United Soccer Coaches poll
Men’s soccer was ranked No. 1 in the nation by the United Soccer Coaches Top 25 Poll on Sept. 30. This is their fifth straight week in the top 25 and highest ever ranking by the coaches top 25 poll.
Alum Christine Sinclair to become first member of Thorns Hall of Fame
UP alum and Portland Thorns FC legend Christine Sinclair will become the first player inducted into the Thorns Hall of Fame, and the first to have her number retired, on Oct. 4 during a match against Bay FC.
