Update: There will be a viewing Wednesday from 2 - 5 p.m. and a memorial service at 5 p.m. in the Chapel at the University of Portland.

Fr. Ron Wasowski, a member of the University of Portland community since 1998, died suddenly Monday night.

University President Fr. Mark Poorman shared the news in an email with faculty, staff and students Tuesday morning. Wasowski lived in the Holy Cross Courts and died of an apparent heart attack or stroke, Poorman said in the email.

In addition to his work as a Holy Cross priest on campus, Wasowski was a professor of environmental science, served as Mehling Hall's pastoral resident from 2001-2005 and was the adviser for the Voice for Life Club.

The funeral mass and burial will take place at the University of Notre Dame in South Bend, Indiana, where Wasowski was born.
