Paris Tran and Perla Molina Nunez elected president and vice president of ASUP
The 2026-27 Associated Students of the University of Portland (ASUP) election results are in. Paris Tran, the previous vice president, will serve as president with Perla Molina Nunez as vice president. The two ran unopposed, winning 93.52% of the vote.
UP Athletics launches university-branded debit and credit cards
UP Athletics partnered with Consolidated Community Credit Union (CCCU) in November 2025 to launch university-branded cards: the Pilots Debit Card and the Pilots Rewards Credit Card.

Outdoor Pursuits Program unveils new off-road wheelchair
A new off-road wheelchair known as “The Rig” is making the outdoors more accessible to students. Designed to handle grass, sand and well-maintained trails, The Rig allows all users to participate in Outdoor Pursuits Program (OPP) excursions on terrain that would normally pose a challenge for some students with disabilities. It was made available to rent in November 2025.
Students petition for seafarers’ plaque
Seafarers are invisible to most students on campus, but not to those minoring in social justice. For their social justice minor capstone, Allana Gladman, Nicole King, Emma Hayes and Jack Helms-Galbraith started a petition on Nov. 11 to install a campus plaque commemorating seafarers and highlighting their struggles, like unsafe working conditions.
International students connect through weekly Tea Time
ISS presents international and domestic students alike with the opportunity to connect through casual tea parties. Weekly Tea Time is held every Friday in the Diversity Center from 3:30-4:30 p.m.

Four well-meaning white characters will step on the stage this Wednesday and take on the most daunting task of all: making a woke but not-too-woke Thanksgiving play for children. Written by award-winning Native American playwright Larissa FastHorse, “The Thanksgiving Play” is a witty take on what it means to be a white person seeking justice for the Native American community through theater.
Changing statistics: FGEN first-years continue to increase
UP’s first-year population statistics are in. The 2025 Undergraduates Demographic Report reveals first-year student demographics, including a rise in first-generation (FGEN) students. Forty-four percent of the class is first-generation — up 4% from the previous class. The report was first announced by President Robert Kelly at an Academic Senate meeting on Sep. 16. The demographics will be made public by the end of the semester, according to Michael Johnson, assistant provost for institutional effectiveness & research.
