The Beacon is responsible for reporting on relevant news for the UP community. This news coverage includes reporting on crime and safety incidents.

To strengthen this effort, we’re introducing a weekly “Police Blotter,” or a record of the incident reports in the Department of Campus Safety’s Crime and Fire Log

The first edition will be published on Feb. 2.

A Beacon reporter will access the log every Monday and cover incidents reported to Campus Safety over the previous week.

If no incidents were reported in the past week, a new edition of the Blotter will not be published.

If The Beacon identifies an incident, or pattern of incidents that warrant further investigation, a reporter will contact Campus Safety and additional coverage may follow.

The Crime and Fire Log is mandated by the Clery Act, a consumer protection law that requires colleges and universities to keep a crime log, publish an annual crime report, produce timely warnings on potential dangers and provide victims with certain rights and resources.

Maggie Dapp is the Editor-In-Chief of The Beacon. She can be reached at dapp26@up.edu.
