Brandon Rivera and John Akers were officially elected ASUP president and vice president for the coming year Wednesday night following a runoff election and a rocky couple of days for student government

This makes Rivera the first-ever ASUP President to be reelected to a second term.

Being that they were the only ones on the ballot in the runoff, Rivera and Akers had to receive votes from at least 10 percent of undergraduate students to confirm their election. 12.1 percent (433) ended up participating in the vote.

"John and I just want to thank everyone who has supported us these past two weeks," Rivera told The Beacon Wednesday night. "I know it has been a crazy last few days, but we feel honored to be elected for next year. Being the first president to return for a second term is a compete honor and I feel blessed to be in this position today. Having an intelligent person, in John, by my side, is amazing. I'm excited to work with him and the rest of our amazing Executive Board for next year."
