Newly hired University of Portland men’s basketball coach Terry Porter will be joined on the Bluff by his two sons, Malcolm and Franklin. Both have enrolled in the university and are committed to play for the Pilots for the 2016-17 season.

Malcolm, a freshman, broke the news of his commitment via Twitter in April. The announcement came a few weeks after the University’s announcement of Terry Porter as the new men’s basketball coach. A 6’3” 180 lb combo guard, Malcolm hails from Portland’s Jesuit high school. He was an Oregon 6A first-team and second-team all state selection his junior and senior year, respectively.

Franklin Porter comes to the Bluff as a sophomore transfer from West Coast Conference rival Saint Mary’s. He appeared in 22 of 35 games for the Gaels as a freshman last year, averaging 1.4 points in 3.1 minutes per game.

Per NCAA transfer rules, Franklin will redshirt and sit out the upcoming season. Malcolm is also expected to redshirt in 2016-17.

Portland hits the hardwood for their first exhibition game against Multnomah University on Oct. 29 in the Chiles Center. The Pilots tip off the regular season on Nov. 11 against UC Riverside at home.
