I will be the first to admit that I, too, was once guilty of vandalism. I frequently carried a writing utensil with me and when no one was looking, covertly drew on desks, tables and other inanimate objects. And then I turned four. Now that we are all in the process of seeking higher education, is there really nowhere else for you to regale us with your stunningly proportional drawing of male anatomy than on my desk in Franz?
And I agree that tic tac toe is a classic game of whit and chance, but really, I'll lend you some scrap paper. Or you can download the "tic tac toe" iPhone app.
Vandalism and tagging really isn't a problem on the UP campus. We are generally a pretty respectful and conscientious assemblage who try and keep our beautiful campus in top-notch condition. And yet, there are still occasions when someone deems it appropriate to treat the table in front of them in a class or study room as their personal platform for expression.
And so I herby provide you vandalism-inclined hooligans with some alternative modes of self-expression: If you want to share your favorite Mumford and Sons song lyrics, get a twitter.
If you want to share your favorite Kelly Clarkson lyrics, you can still get a Twitter. But I won't follow you.
If you truly love the symbol of the deathly hallows so much you wish it to be immortalized, how about a tattoo?
If you plan to draw such an impressive replication of "The Thinker," get a piece of paper so you can frame it afterwards and give it to your mom for Mother's day.
Speaking of moms, if you so earnestly believe that your mother is better than my mother, well, that actually is unworthy of public expression.
If "OLJ" really feels the need to express his or her eternal love with "BMJ", perhaps drawing their name on the inside of a heart on a lock and taking it to the lock bridge in Paris would be a tad more romantic. Unless BMJ
is unaware that you are joined together in abiding love. Then that would be creepy.
If you feel your less-than optimistic poetry deserves to be publicized, get a Tumblr.
Because really, we are borrowing these desks from the Pilots who sat here enraptured in the sexual habits of flowers or the ideas of David Hume before us, and we are saving them for the Pilots who will sit here for years
to come. So please, leave their desks alone.
On a slightly related note - does anyone know if the person who sits in my same chair in Biology wants me to know that I am loved or that I am loud?
