Christie Hall will close for renovations during the 2026-27 academic year, according to a Feb. 6 email from Director of Residence Life Andrew Weingarten to residents of Christie and Villa Maria Halls.

Christie Hall is the latest dorm to close its doors for renovation. Shipstad Hall was previously closed for updates from 2023 to the 2025 fall semester.

Current Christie residents will receive priority status in the housing selection process for 2026-27 and are welcome to visit the Office of Residence Life in Tyson Hall 123 for one-on-one support in choosing their next on-campus home, according to Weingarten.

Weingarten also hinted at Villa Maria Hall as a desirable destination for Christie residents looking for new housing.

“Villa Maria has its own long history of strong traditions and spirited community life, and Christie staff members are excited to bring their leadership and energy to Villa,” Weingarten said.

Weingarten says Villa Maria will house first-year and sophomore students, as well as interested upperclassmen. Villa Maria's two “garden-level wings” will be available to upperclassmen wanting single rooms.

Addressing Christie residents, Weingarten highlighted the popularity of Christie Hall among students and said that the university is “proud to pause operations there on such a high note.”

“We hope many [Christie residents] will help re-launch a thriving Villa Maria community, but our priority is helping each student find housing that feels right,” Weingarten said.
