Letter from the editor: Connect with us

Many Beacon staffers, myself included, joined our newsroom to connect with our campus community — to share with and learn from the diverse set of people who constitute UP.

When experienced staffers check in with new recruits to ask how they’re finding the job, a common response is, “I love getting out and talking with people. I love hearing people’s stories.”

For those of us who pursued The Beacon in search of those experiences, luckily connection is vital to and unavoidable in our work. On a practical level, we can seldom publish words or images without conversations and faces. But more importantly, the strength of our reporting directly reflects the quantity and quality of the conversations we have with our community — with you.

That’s why I invite you to attend our editorial board’s weekly office hours: to connect.

Each editor’s office hours are posted on our newsroom door in St. Mary’s Student Center and are open to anyone — whether you have a story idea, feedback on our coverage or a question on how The Beacon works.

I hope you’ll stop by. At The Beacon, we want to produce work that truly reflects and serves our community, and we need your help to do so.

When you’re ready, we’re here to connect.
