UP alum and Portland Thorns FC legend Christine Sinclair will become the first player inducted into the Thorns Hall of Fame, and the first to have her number retired, on Oct. 4 during a match against Bay FC.
UP students and alumni are eligible for discounted tickets through a SeatGeek promo code, UP4Sinc, with discounted prices starting at $26 including fees.
Before her 12-year National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL) career with the Thorns, Sinclair played four years with the Pilots, winning national championships in 2002 and 2005 and scoring two goals in each championship match. Her 39 goals in 2005 remain a women’s Division I single-season record, and she is the Pilots’ women’s soccer all-time scorer with 110 goals.
Sinclair won consecutive MAC Hermann Trophies in 2004 and 2005, which are awarded to the top player in men’s and women’s collegiate soccer.
After spending her entire NWSL career with the Thorns and winning three NWSL championships — in 2013, 2017 and 2022 — Sinclair retired from professional soccer in 2024. She holds club records for matches played, games started, minutes played and total goals, with 79 across all NWSL competitions — the second most in league history.
Sinclair is also the highest goal-scorer in international soccer history. Her 190 goals for Canadian Women’s National Team are the most by any men’s or women’s player.
