Masks and face coverings will be required for all students, faculty and staff inside of university and campus buildings, regardless of vaccination status, effective Aug. 2.

The decision to reinstate mask mandates was made after updated guidance from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, Oregon Health Authority and Multnomah County amidst the surging COVID-19 Delta variant.

Face coverings are not required:

  • In private office spaces

  • In private laboratories

  • In dorm rooms

  • While eating and drinking on campus

  • Outside

  • For an instructor, if they are in a classroom teaching from behind a screen or shield or are at least six feet away from their audience

Those that have received a vaccine exemption from the university must adhere to all mask and face covering guidance they have received.

UP will no longer administer surveillance testing for COVID-19, although tests will still be offered through the Health and Counseling Center and self-administered tests are available at the Campus Safety office and in a student’s residence hall.

Students, faculty and staff will not be required to monitor daily symptoms through the Carbon Health and Campus Clear apps.

UP will revisit this policy before Sept. 17, taking into account the latest recommendations from local, state and federal authorities.
