The University of Portland men’s and women’s ultimate frisbee teams punched their ticket to nationals at the Northwest Conference Championships in Puyallup, Wash. this past weekend.

It is the first berth to nationals for both programs.

The women’s team, ‘UPRoar,’ ranked no. 7 in the country coming into the conference championships, lost to the University of Puget Sound in the tournament finals. But with a win over Lewis & Clark College in a consolation match, 15-8, they earned the region’s second bid to nationals.

The men’s team, ‘UPRise,’ defeated Whitworth University, 12-10, in bracket play and slipped by Whitman College, 11-10, in the championship game of the tournament to claim their spot. UPRise is the only team from the northwest region that will be at Division III nationals.

The Division III national championships will be held in Lexington, Ky. on May 20 and 21.
