“Meet the little voices in your head” says Disney-Pixar’s “Inside Out,” which personifies the emotions Joy, Anger, Fear, Disgust and Sadness in a young girl’s head.

Campus Program Board collaborated with the club Active Minds to host a half-hour discussion before showing the film Thursday night.

Active Minds is a new club on campus that began after the death of Michael Eberitzsch last spring.  The group was born out of an event called We Need to Talk held last year.

Club leader Jesse Dunn started the conversation with a moment of silence for those affected by the shooting at Umpqua Community College in Roseburg, Ore., earlier in the day.

He also talked about the group’s main goals which are: to raise awareness of mental illness, fight stigma and connect students on campus with the appropriate resources.

Many members of the club have submitted opinion pieces to The Beacon about their own experience with mental and emotional health problems to help accomplish these goals.

Seniors Mariah Wilgden and Lydia Laythe lead the discussion which covered topics such as: how mental health is talked about on campus, suggestions for increasing awareness among friends and family and helping communities after tragedies such as mass shootings.

The club hopes to provide more programming throughout the year. CPB will show “Inside Out” again on Friday, Oct. 2 at 9 p.m.
