The race for ASUP President and Treasurer ended up being a close battle.

Khalid Osman and Grace Holmes won the presidency over Mariah Wildgen and Chelsea Richards with 53 percent of the vote. David Zabinski won the treasurer position with 53 percent of the vote.

After the first round of elections, neither presidential ticket had a majority of the student vote, leading to an immediate runoff. According to Matthew Baer, ASUP committee election chair, the race for president was tied as of 9 a.m. this morning, but the gap widened throughout the day.

“I went into the race excited, but came out even more excited," Holmes said. "Usually people feel really tired after campaigning, but I feel more energized now that we have met more people.”

Osman and Holmes already have big plans for what they are doing next. Tonight, they are launching a website called khalidgrace.firebaseapp.com where people can post what matters to them the most.

David Zabinski is also excited about winning the treasurer position.

“I think it was a very hard-fought election, and [both] candidates tried hard,” said Zabinski, who won the close election against Bryan Chipman.
