With the click of a ‘like' button, UP students' Facebook newsfeeds have filled with student-made memes. The recently created UP Meme Page has students creating and posting memes relating to aspects of life on The Bluff.
The page was created by junior Job Nazareno Monday, February 13 in the midst of procrastination.
"While procrastinating on a paper, I was on Facebook," Nazareno said. "I saw my friend advertise his school's meme page, Seatte U Memes. I told him that having that page was a really good idea, and he told me that I should make one for my school. So, at 12:56 a.m. on Monday, February 13, 2012, the UP Meme page was born."
Many postings are complaints such as the price of tuition, crowds in The Cove and the lack of parking spots on campus, but the bizarre and silly pictures paired with the message tone down the seriousness. Other memes poke fun at certain majors, student demographics and professors. However, the majority of them are humorous jokes that only a UP student would truly understand.
"I'm seeing so many people I've seen around campus, people I'm not acquainted with, people I know, and people I wish I knew make posts, contribute to the page, and like the posts," Nazareno said. "I'm glad I could make a page where the school as a community can make school-wide inside jokes and bond through them."
Over 1,000 students – almost a third of the University's population – have liked the UP Meme Page. To hop on the bandwagon, like "UP Meme Page" on Facebook.
