"Red Tails" is an ordinary wartime film directed by Anthony Hemingway and produced by George Lucas. The film stars Cuba Gooding, Jr. and Terrence Howard in what could have been a remarkable depiction of the Tuskegee Airmen, a group of African_American fighter pilots in WWII who overcame discrimination and fought bravely in combat.

The beginning of the movie seemed less than spectacular, as there was not any significant plot development. Rather, the filmmakers opted to dive right into the action by depicting an intense air battle between American and German forces. After this fast-paced beginning, the introduction of the characters seemed to fall flat with several minutes of pointless conversation.

However, the plot thickened as it weaved in a minor romance story and confrontations involving discrimination and racism. I found it admirable that Hemingway focused more on the struggles that the Airmen faced rather than placing a heavy emphasis on romance.

However, the film still contained major drawbacks, including lackluster dialogue and humor along with a heavy reliance on action sequences.

While "Red Tails" will probably not receive any Oscar nods, it is still an entertaining film for those who enjoy adrenaline-packed war scenes. Still, save yourself the $10 and wait until it is released on Netflix.
