They walk among us…! Whether the liberal majority at UP likes it or not, there are conservatives sitting next to us in our classes, dancing with us at parties and eating with us at the Commons. I myself am part of the liberal majority, however, I feel compelled to advocate for some humanity as I have witnessed lack of perspective in discussions at UP.

The men’s and women’s basketball teams each hosted a doubleheader in Chiles this week. The women picked up a win and a loss and the men’s team had two losses. The men’s and women’s tennis teams competed in Seattle, and track and field competed in the Portland Indoor Three at home.

The UP Presidential Search Committee is scheduled to meet this month to choose finalists for preliminary interviews, according to a Jan. 25 campus-wide email from Thomas Arndorfer, chair of the Board of Regents. This is the fourth step in a six step process, according to the Presidential Search Process website.

The gathering was a celebration for QTBIPOC students and a send off for Associate Professor of Psychological Sciences, Sarina Saturn – who left UP at the end of January.

This week in Pilot sports, the men’s and women’s basketball teams picked up crucial conference wins, women’s tennis competed at the beach tennis winter invite and at Portland State. The Pilot’s track teams hosted their first indoor track meet, and men’s tennis competed against Texas Christian University and Wichita State.

I spent my entire childhood living next to a graveyard. It’s a very nice graveyard — tall trees, windy paths, hillsides and relaxing benches. If you stand on the side facing the East you will see beautiful views of the city. Being in the graveyard was peaceful. Somedays I would sit there and watch the world move around me, listening to the honks, yells and alarms of civilization.
