If musicians, actors and influencers get Oscars, so should teachers. Teachers play a huge role in shaping people’s lives and society. But often, teachers are not given the recognition and support that they deserve.

The education field requires so much dedication, patience, love and care — the list could go on. Teachers provide far more than just academic knowledge. They help shape students’ characters and values, and teachers often go beyond their expectations as an educator to help support students.

Additionally, teachers are responsible for ensuring their students understand the class content. Most importantly, teachers also ensure everyone is safe.

An article on the relationship between teachers and students in Education Week Magazine explains that because of the lack of funding and staffing in schools, teachers are overworked and experience burnout while trying to provide students with the education they need.

Yet throughout all of this, they are not given proper recognition or support for the extra work they must take on.

We should remember that teachers are humans. Therefore, we should treat them as such by understanding their strengths as well as their limitations.

If society continues to lack recognition and support for teachers, shortages will continue to increase and burnout will become more severe.

With these harsh expectations for teachers to do everything without recognition, society should come together and provide support to show them the recognition they deserve.
