At approximately 9 a.m. on Nov. 6, community members began calling Campus Safety about reports of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) activity near campus, according to Michael McNerney, director of campus safety.
Campus Safety did not receive any eye-witness reports of ICE activity and doesn’t currently know of any credible reports, McNerney said.
The office has also not presently received any notices or warrants from ICE pertaining to UP community members, according to McNerney.
In response to these reports, McNerney sent an email to the community at 5:03 p.m. reiterating President Kelly’s previous advice on interacting with ICE agents.
Campus Safety will also continue their regular patrols. Officers tend to cover the area approximately a half mile around campus, according to McNerney.
Notably, North Portland schools implemented safety protocols the same day in response to reported ICE activity in the area. Among them was César Chávez School, located just a mile away from campus.
