For the month of February, UP students can access vouchers that take $10 off their Uber rides due to a partnership between Uber and It’s On Us, an organization affiliated with UP’s Students Against Sexual Assault (SASA) club. The University’s chapter of It’s On Us was given $5000 in $10 rideshare vouchers for students to use.

It’s On Us is a nationwide 501(c)(3) non-profit organization that works through different chapters at various universities to educate students about sexual assault and support survivors on college campuses.

UP’s chapter of It’s On Us started quite naturally once SASA became an organization in 2016.

“It was 2016 that SASA became an organization … and It's On Us just kind of seemed to fit,” Brooke Welter, SASA co-president said. “So we were technically an It's On Us chapter at UP.”

To access the vouchers, students can go to the Wellness Center Instagram account and scan the QR code provided or copy the link.

“All they have to do is read the rideshare tips and tricks and then there's the QR code to scan,” Welter said.

The partnership between It’s On Us and Uber looks to ensure people’s safety while using a ride-hailing app through making people aware of tips and features to make the experience more safe.

“The tips are kind of like how to verify your ride, how to make sure that you're being safe with rideshares, making sure it's the right car,” Welter said. “And there's the safety feature on the app where if you're not in an emergency, but you do feel uncomfortable, you can press this button and you can be on the phone or texting someone throughout the whole ride on the Uber app.”

The vouchers will be available through the month of February, the deal ending on Feb 27.
