Got those back-to-school blues? Here's your January events calendar

Get over the back-to-school-blues by going out this weekend, like to Arran Fagan & Co.'s concert at the Alberta Street Pub.

Back to school means back to papers, tests and reading quizzes for those readings you never actually do. Back-to-school blues and rain might have you down, but coming back to school also means coming back to school events and Portland fun-tivies. Don’t sit around and cry about break being over — head out this weekend to the activities fair or a cool concert.

January 19

Every semester the activities fair is a great opportunity to sign up for new clubs and meet new people. This year, the activities fair will be in the Chiles Center from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.

Actually Gavin Improv, UP’s improv group, will be performing Saturday night in Mago Hunt at 7:30 p.m. Entry is $2 per person and $3 for pairs!

Pilots After Dark will be hosting Karaoke Night in the Pilot House at 10:00 p.m.

January 20

Women’s basketball will be playing Loyola Marymount in the Chiles Center at 2:00 p.m.

Arran Fagan & Co., a folk band with UP students Arran Fagan, Jack Pfeffer and Jonathan Wiley, will be performing at Alberta Street Pub this Saturday night at 9:30. Doors to the event open at 7:30 p.m. The show is for those 21 and older with an $8 entry charge. Arran Fagan & Co. will be releasing their third album, Weight of Time, for purchase at the venue. Jeffrey Martin will be the opening act and the band Anomelea will follow Arran Fagan & Co.

Pilots After Dark will be hosting Chill Vibes Night this Saturday with chair massages, resolution making, kinetic sand and refreshing food at 10:00 p.m. in the Pilot House this Saturday.

January 25

The legendary men’s basketball versus Gonzaga game will take place Jan. 25 in the Chiles Center at 8:00 p.m. 

January 27

The Beacon will be hosting News Trivia Night at Pilots After Dark at 10:00 p.m. in the Pilot House.

Women’s basketball will be playing St. Mary’s in the Chiles Center at 2:00 p.m.

January 29

CPB hosts Cosmic Tubing on Mt. Hood from 5:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m. Tickets can be purchased for $10 at the Office of Student Activities, and buses will leave from the Pilot House.

January 31

Journalist and minister Graydon Royce from St. Paul, Minnesota presents “Going Beyond ‘Good’ and ‘Bad’ in Public Discourse.”  The lecture takes place in Franz 120 at 7:15 p.m.
