A spectacular season came to an end for the men’s cross-country team Nov. 23 with a 7th place finish in the NCAA National Championship. This finish ties the team’s best, last done in 2008.

Redshirt junior Scott Fauble led the team all season and at nationals. He beat his personal best at the 10k race with a 13th overall finish and a time of 30:21. Fauble took home his third all-American certificate, second consecutive Cross Country All American title and was named US Bank University of Portland student-athlete of the month. He notes his success to the strength of the program at UP.

“I have a lot of faith in our coaches and i put a lot of faith in the system they’ve created,” Fauble said. “The combination of that and hard work.”

The next Pilot to finish was Charlie McDonald who finished 60th in his last race for UP. Redshirt junior Ryan Poland was right behind him finishing 66th. University of Colorado secured the national title for the fourth time. Second was Northern Arizona, third Oklahoma State, fourth was fellow WCC team BYU, fifth was Oregon and sixth was Iona.

This year, the Pilots took 2nd in the WCC Championships and 3rd at the NCAA West Regionals.
