The ASUP Senate postponed its decision on the smoking ban resolution until next Monday's meeting to give senators more time to get feedback from their constituents.
"We moved the decision because we saw that the senators weren't talking to their constituents," said senior Alyssa Schmidt-Carr, ASUP vice president and a leader of bringing a smoking ban to UP.
In response to last week's Beacon editorial opposing the smoking ban, Schmidt-Carr decided to run an online survey open to all students. This survey is still available on PilotsUP. Students are also encouraged to e-mail their senators with their opinions.
The survey, however, has proved problematic to Schmidt-Carr and other senators like sophomore Chloe Ruffin.
"You can vote twice on the survey," Ruffin said. "There's so much ambiguity with it."
With the reliability of the polling in question, ASUP senators are put in a tight position. Schmidt-Carr explains that the poll is now up to 1,000 votes and split almost exactly 50/50.
The next ASUP Senate meeting is next Monday at 4:30 p.m. in Shiley Hall 301.
