I'm sure everyone remembers back to the beginning of last week to the first time that they saw the huge neon green sign in the Academic Quad, "VOTE BUNCH AND ABLE FOR ASUP."
Some of you may have been thinking, "Who are Bunch and Able?" or "What is ASUP?"
I hope that in the last week and a half you have been able to find out who Bunch and Able are. Many people have come up to me with many cool slogans that they think that we should use, "We are an Able Bunch," or my favorite "We're Simply Bunchable!" that ended up on our campaign T-shirts.
The point is that these ideas mostly came from people that Allison and I did not know before the campaign. By making ourselves visible, people felt comfortable approaching us with their ideas.
One of the biggest goals Allison and I have for next year is being more present around campus. We have been trying to meet as many people as possible by attending hall council meetings, getting to know new people while passing out candy at the basketball games, and sitting down to talk with students whenever possible.
We are doing this not only to campaign, but because it is our goal to be visible and approachable leaders. Our promise is to continue to be available and willing to listen to your ideas. Another big goal that I have for next year is communication. Many people that I have talked to during the last couple of weeks didn't know what Senate was, or that we even had a Senate. This is something that we need to fix.
The idea that I have is to create a newsletter that would go out once or twice a month explaining the accomplishments, goals and ideas that ASUP has, and upcoming events to make sure people know what is going on around campus. As campaigning reaches its climax, and the stresses of speech night and other campaigning initiatives conclude, it is now your job as a student body to make the final decision about who will represent you on next year's ASUP Executive Board.
I know Allison and I will approach the roles of president and vice president in the most dedicated way possible by putting all of our efforts into leading the student body.
We are not going to let students' ideas and concerns sit around and not get addressed. They will be integrated into the ideas and visions that we have already established and put forth to the administration.
We will not let anything that we bring to the table be overlooked. Every plan and concern be clearly presented with the expectations of a valid response from the administration. These are examples of why presence and communication are our main priorities.
I know that we are the best people to get the job done. I hope that you feel confident in our abilities, and use this as your basis for clicking the box next to "Bunch and Able" when you vote online next week.
