This week in Pilots athletics, the men’s tennis team competed in the Gonzaga Invitational and the Southern Intercollegiates, the men’s soccer team earned a win and a tie, the women’s soccer team won on the road, the cross country teams competed in the WCC Championships and the women’s rowing team hosted the Portland Fall Classic. 

Here is everything you need to know about last week’s sports.

Men’s Tennis

In the Southern California Intercollegiate Championships and Gonzaga Invitational, Issa Yoshida made it to the semi-finals in the singles tournament before losing to Ryder Jackson of USC. In the doubles tournament, Issa Yoshida and Leo Hibi won with a defeat over Allen/Steinhausen from SMU. 

In the Gonzaga Invitational, Julien Penzlin and Nikolas Tvedt won the doubles title in the top draw on Sunday morning, while freshman Oscar Brown teamed up with a Gonzaga player for the doubles crown in the White Draw. Tvedt also won three consolation matches in the top-flight singles.

Men’s Soccer

The men’s soccer team beat Gonzaga 4-1 at home on Wednesday, Oct. 27, with goals from Gurman Sangha, Ben Ortiz, Luke Hendel and Jacob Babalai (PK). Gonzaga’s lone goal on the night came from a PK in the first half. 

The Pilots then took on Pacific University at home on Saturday, Oct. 30 and ended that game in a 1-1 draw with a goal coming from #10 Sebastian Nava. 

The Men’s soccer team is currently 3-1-1 in conference play, and they take on Northern Illinois at home on Wednesday, Nov. 3.

Women’s Soccer

Women’s soccer picked up their 3rd conference win in a row at Loyola Marymount with a score of 1-0. Sophomore Nedya Sawan scored her 10th goal of the season and clinched the win. 

The Pilots sit at 4-3-0 in the league and will take on BYU at home on Nov. 3 following the men’s game.

Women’s Indoor Volleyball

The women’s volleyball team was away at St. Mary’s where they lost 1-3 with set scores of 24-26, 25-22, 25-21, and 25-20. 

They then played away at Pacific University and lost 0-3 with set scores of 25-17, 25-18, and 25-16. 

The Pilots are currently 2-10 in conference games and will take on San Diego at home on Thursday, Oct. 4.

Men’s Cross Country

The cross country team competed in the West Coast Conference Championships on Friday, Oct. 29, and placed 3rd as a team. Zak Kirk and Stan Niesten each claimed All-WCC First Team honors, with Bradley Peloquin and George Duggan nabbing spots on the All-WCC Second Team. 

Women’s Cross Country

The women’s team also competed in the West Coast Conference Championships on Oct. 29 and placed 3rd as a team. Anna Pataki and Pilots standout Laura Pellicoro each earned All-WCC honors. Pellicoro was also named the conference's Freshman of the Year.

Women’s Rowing

The women’s rowing team hosted the Portland Fall Classic this weekend and placed first with the varsity eight boat and first with the varsity four boat.
