First and foremost, we would like to extend a welcome from ASUP to the class of 2017. We hope your time here on the Bluff is full of great experiences and wonderful memories. To all of those joining us for another great year, we thank you for being such an important part of our community.

We as the Student Body Representatives are extremely excited for this forthcoming year and are looking forward to the positive impacts that our position will allow us to create in our community. Even though the school year has just started, your ASUP representatives have already been hard at work.  By request of the Student Body and work with the Information and Technology Department, Google Drive and other applications have been enabled for all students. We have also assisted in the hiring and development process of the new Pilots After Dark Weekend and Late Night Programming, now housed under the Office of Student Activities; which will provide activities for students every Friday and Saturday night from 10pm to 1am in the Cove.

This year, the ASUP will be making their final donation to the RISE Campaign through the Major Project Fund. This donation is currently set at 10% of the student government fees that students pay. Because of this, ASUP is seeking input from the students on what to do with this additional money that we will be receiving since it will not be included in our donation to the RISE Campaign in the spring.

Additionally, ASUP Senate passed a resolution last semester, 12-09, which made it possible for ASUP to access unspent funds at the end of the fiscal year. 90% of these unspent funds will now be distributed into this fall’s Major Project Fund.

With 90% of unspent funds from last semester being added to our MPF, the Senate will be seeking input from the students on what major project the students want to see. We sincerely hope the students at the University of Portland will get involved with ASUP. Student involvement, engagement and energy are necessary to help us make your experience on the Bluff everything it can be! Keep an eye open for Senate applications and find us on Facebook at facebook.com/UPASUP. Feel free to stop by in the ASUP office located in St. Mary’s, we look forward to getting to know you!
