The Portland Pilots defeated the UCLA Bruins 1-0 in a hard fought match on Thursday. The Pilots move on to play Kentucky on the road this Sunday Nov. 18.

Diversity and Inclusion Programs (DIP) along with Mesa Redonda and MEChA hosted a celebration for Día de los Muertos, a Mexican holiday celebrating the memory of passed loved ones on Thursday Nov 1. The quiet side of the Commons was packed with vibrant decorations, traditional crafts, delicious food and beautiful performances by cultural dance groups.
Campus Program Board (CPB) and the Office of Residence Life hosted their annual HALLoween event last night where students opened up their dorm rooms to hand out candy to trick-or-treaters from the surrounding North Portland neighborhoods. Little monsters, superheroes and princesses gathered in front of the Chiles Center to check in with CPB before heading off to the dorms.
Wednesday night’s Espresso UP was a princess and puppy extravaganza. Members of UP’s chapter of A Moment of Magic (AMOM), a nonprofit organization where college students visit children’s hospitals dressed as princesses and superheroes, came to Espresso UP in full costume. Sleeping Beauty, Belle, Merida, Jasmine and Captain Marvel took pictures with students as they got their coffee and Italian sodas.
Espresso UP also partnered with the Oregon Humane Society on Wednesday and brought two dogs — Rex, an eight-year-old Lab-Shepherd mix, and Harley, a six-year-old Golden Retriever. Rex and Harley welcomed students into St. Mary’s with bright eyes and wagging tails to help students take a break from the stress of midterms week.
On Friday, guys, girls and ghouls alike showed up to CPB’s fall dance decked out in haunting makeup, fake blood and other frightening costumes. The Fright Night dance sold out the morning of Wednesday, Oct. 3 at 1,200 tickets. Check out photos from the spooky night.
Students gathered in St. Mary's on Thursday night to take part in Pilots Paint, which is a painting night put on by Diversity and Inclusion Programs. This Pilots Paint was in honor of Latinx Heritage Month and was in partnership with Mesa Redonda. According to Diversity and Inclusion, "Pilots Paint is our version of painting, power, oppression, diversity and social justice in celebration of various heritage months."

On Friday, students went down to Franz Campus to enjoy CPB's Riverboat. Students enjoyed the carnival rides, free food, games, and DJ that were available this year at the annual event.
On Thursday, UP's class of 2022 moved in to the residence halls. The class of 2022 is one of the largest classes in UP history. Move in included a dinosaur at Villa Maria Hall, a llama in Fields Hall and a confetti cannon at Shipstad Hall.

Last night, students, guests and incoming freshmen arrived at the Chiles Center for Campus Program Board's annual event, Rock the Bluff. Big Wild, a DJ with best known songs including "Aftergold" and "When I Get There" started off the night as the opening act. Louis the Child, a DJ duo, was the headlining act. They started off the set with their popular song "Fire" and closed out the night with "Last to Leave" and confetti. The Beacon has your front-row pictures from the show here.
Last Friday night, the International Student Services and the Studies Abroad Office hosted the annual International Night in the Quiet Side of the Commons. The night began with guests visiting different booths dedicated to different countries, and ended with performances where students and guests displayed different talents from different cultures. Students experienced a snow day on Tuesday. Classes after 2:30 p.m. were cancelled, which allowed students to go play in the snow. People built snowmen, threw snowballs and hung out with friends in the chilly weather.
