Michael Kranyak is departing from the University following his recent appointment to interim director of campus safety eight weeks ago.

Kranyak was appointed interim director of campus safety following the departure of Sara Westbrook. UP has not announced Kranyak’s successor, yet ensures that the officers will be working to maintain Campus Safety’s role on campus regardless.

“The high priority placed on providing a safe campus environment will not change,” Vice President for Marketing and Communications Michael Lewellen said in an email to The Beacon. “Our officers are equipped with the tools and training necessary to maintain a secure UP community.”

Kranyak has worked at UP for 21 years within Campus Safety, and was appointed interim director on March 1, 2023.

“As he chooses a new step in his career in protective service and security, we wish him continued success,” Lewellen said in an email.

Kranyak did not respond to The Beacon’s request to comment.
