Hey Pilots, Natalie here. As The Beacon’s community engagement editor, I am always looking for new ways to engage with the amazing community here on campus. That said, I’m excited to introduce a brand-new column in The Beacon this year: What’s UP with Natalie. This recurring column will cover all things UP, from club spotlights — giving students some new ways to get involved on campus — to other fun or relevant topics I think the community would enjoy.
In honor of Veteran's Day on Monday, Army and Air Force ROTC organized their annual 24-hour vigil with a ceremony held on Sunday to commemorate the end of it. The Beacon spoke to several members of ROTC about what the ceremony means to them.
University of Portland’s college radio station, KDUP, broadcasts music and radio shows on campus 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Students can tune into KDUP through their website, where over 100 student DJ’s play all kinds of music, from indie rock to hip-hop, or host talk shows covering a variety of topics.
The Office of Title IX will host a presentation and open discussion in the basement of Fields and Schoenfeldt Hall at 8 p.m. on Wednesday. Students will be able ask questions during the event to the Title IX committee, but also can submit anonymous questions online in advance.

The recently released Public Safety 2017 annual crime and fire report showed an increase in reports of alcohol violations on campus properties and at official UP events. The increase followed a trend of rising reports of alcohol violations since at least 2012.
