Students at University of Portland have the opportunity to attend the first ever Creators Conference on Saturday in Franz Hall for students interested in digital creation of any sort.

First ever student Creator's Conference to be held Saturday

It’s probably safe to say that Franz Hall is the last place students want to be on a Saturday afternoon. But an event taking place this Saturday is worth attending if you’re into photography, videography, social media marketing or any other creative pursuit in the digital multimedia world.  The 2018 Creators Conference is a student-organized event for student creators to meet like-minded peers, network, learn about multimedia production and hear from recent UP alumni who are working in the creative fields. It will be held this Saturday, April 17, at 10 a.m. in Franz Hall 120.

We ranked all the bathrooms on campus from worst to best.

All of UP's on-campus bathrooms, ranked from worst to best

Students spend a lot of time on campus, and eventually, they all have to use the bathroom. Many of us probably have a short list of favorite places to use the loo as well as bathroom locations we swear we’ll never visit again. The Beacon ranked all of the public campus bathrooms from worst to best. Take a look at our interactive map to see which facilities we love and which ones we try to avoid.

We've got your graduation checklist

Where do I take my senior pictures? When do I order my cap and gown? How am I going to get enough tickets to the graduation ceremony for all of my relatives? These are the questions seniors on The Bluff are asking themselves. In the midst of preparing for final exams, applying for jobs and finishing up capstone projects, many seniors may feel overwhelmed by the extra deadlines and responsibilities of commencement. But worry no more: The Beacon has put together a checklist of things seniors need to do before they graduate.

Staff Opinion: When you need help, ask

As a graduating senior, I’ve realized that making mistakes is a part of life. I’m not perfect, but I try to believe mistakes will help me become a more knowledgeable person. Once I’ve made a mistake, I’m probably never going to make it again. I’ve learned from my mistakes, and I will apply my knowledge to similar situations in the future. Because I’m an old hag a knowledgeable senior, I want to tell Beacon readers something I tell myself all the time: when you need help, ask for help.

Virtual reality allows students to create objects, explore Google earth, observe cell structures and more in a three-dimensional universe. This new technology can be found in the digital lab in Clark Library.

Virtual reality now available in the Digital Lab

Is it the future? No, it’s what students can experience today with the Clark Library’s new virtual reality technology. The new technology includes one HTC Vive headset, headphones and corresponding controllers. Students can try them out by reserving them via the Digital Lab’s website, or by walking into the Digital Lab and asking about virtual reality.

His start-up company, Minim, now has three garments: the hoodie, pants and most recently, the Method Jacket, a waterproof fleece jacket offering greater comfort and flexibility than the hoodie. Between the three products, Williamson has received over $164,000 of investment on Kickstarter and sold between 1,600 and 1,700 units of pants and hoodies. Williamson has traveled to New York City, Sweden, Denmark and China for his business, and he plans on continuing to manage his company full-time after he graduates in December.
