Dundon-Berchtold Hall completion date pushed back
The expected completion of the has been pushed back from January 2019 to May 2019. The date push back is due to a delay in necessary construction permits from the City of Portland, according to Vice President of University Operations Jim Ravelli.
Ravelli said the delay in permits is due to a high amount of construction activity in Portland, with construction of new public schools and business construction at Intel and Nike, as well as residential construction.
According to Ravelli, increase of construction activity has slowed down the City of Portland’s permit process, and has turned the four-month process for obtaining Dundon-Berchtold permits into a six-month process. Ravelli is expecting the permits shortly after January first.
To keep the original completion date of Jan. 1, Ravelli said the school would have had to pay an additional $600,000 to speed up the construction process. With the new projected completion date, students and faculty will be able to use the new building in fall semester of 2019.
“We’re very excited to get started,” Ravelli said. “We think it’s going to be a fantastic building. We want to get this done because the demand for it is high.”
