This year’s fall dance theme is Kanye approved. Whether you dress up as a gold miner or a gold digger, just remember: all that glitters is gold at Campus Program Board’s annual dance. The theme is Gold Rush, which gives you and your friends a golden opportunity to dress up, have fun with friends and go dancing at the Left Bank Annex.

CPB’s director Jacque Nelson and dance coordinator Rachael Addy hope students will get creative with this year’s theme.

“That’s the fun part: It’s whatever you want it to be,” Addy said.

“I hope people let their imagination run wild,” Nelson said. “The point of this ambiguous theme was to sort of give the power to the people. I will personally be wearing a gold dress paired with some fabulous fake black fur — a Goodwill original.”

The Left Bank Annex has been CPB’s go-to venue for the fall dance for the past three years. This year’s decorations will be “Western glam,” with gold cacti and Western wheels covered in gold spray paint.

"It's a minimalist, gorgeous venue," Monica Perez, dance coordinator, said. "It's going to be a lot of fun, a lot of gold, a lot of glitter, and a little bit of Western here and there."

The dance will include a DJ, food and a bar for students over 21. The signature drink at the bar will be a mixed alcoholic drink of Goldschlager (alcohol with gold flakes) and apple cider.

Just because the theme is gold doesn’t mean your outfit has to break the bank. There are several resources close to UP where students can find affordable gold clothing, shoes and accessories.

Give & Take, a consignment store located in the Kenton neighborhood, offers secondhand clothing, shoes and purses, and plenty of gold jewelry. Fred Meyer is also a great place to pick up last-minute accessories, like gold hairspray and glitter. Located on Lombard, Goodwill is just a few blocks from campus. It always has costumes and makeup kits to help top off your golden ensemble.

“This is the chance to dance like an idiot with your friends,” Perez said. “There’s only one gold rush dance.”
