Mardi Gras is this Tuesday! Grab your colorful masks and beads and head out for a night on the town in Portland. There are lots of fun Tuesday night options to celebrate the indulgent holiday that’s all about letting loose before Lent. Here are a few ways to spend your Fat Tuesday in Portland.

CPB Carnival 2017

Where: Quiet Side of the Commons

When: Monday night at 7:00 PM to 9:00 PM

What: UP Campus Program Board and Diversity Dialogues week bring Carnival to the Bluff. Carnival is essentially another form of Mardi Gras, though it is considered a festive season, rather than just one day. It typically involves a public celebration and/or parade combining some elements of a circus, masks, and a public street party. At UP’s version, there will be free desserts, mask making, a photo booth, live entertainment and a beer garden for those 21 and older. It’s a free event!

Mardi Gras Parade!

Where: Mississippi Avenue

When: Tuesday night at 5:30 PM to 10:00 PM

What: It’s going to be a family-friendly parade and costumes are encouraged. It begins at Victoria Bar at 5:30. The parade will begin rolling south on Mississippi Avenue at 7:00. The parade will end at Ecliptic Brewing, where there will be an afterparty with live music. For more information, click here.

Eat out at an authentic New Orleans Style restaurant!

Mardi Gras is also known as Fat Tuesday and originated in New Orleans, so celebrate by eating out with friends at a Portland restaurant with New Orleans style food. Try Irving Street Kitchen, Acadia New Orleans Bistro, or East Burn. (EastBurn will have New Orleans Style Gumbo and other Mardi Gras specials on February 28.)
