Update 3:06 p.m.: A hit-and-run collision occurred on Willamette Blvd. just south of campus Friday afternoon at 12:24 p.m.

A silver 2008 Volkswagen Jetta crossed over the centerline and ran into an oncoming Toyota Prius. The man driving the Jetta, which had been stolen, took off running into the neighborhood following the accident, according to Portland Police officer Eric Dinnel.

Deputies from the Multnomah County Sheriffs Office have taken the man into custody. Roy Lawrence Bennett, 24, was arrested for unlawful use of a vehicle and hit-and-run, according to Portland Police Lt. Pete Simpson. Simpson said Bennett's most recent address was in North Portland, but he was not a student of the University of Portland.

The driver of the other vehicle required medical transport, but had no serious injuries.

A witness, Bob Mionske, said he was riding his bike when he saw the car drift into the oncoming lane of traffic. He said the car nearly hit him before veering across the centerline.

Both cars were towed from the scene, Simpson said.

Portland Police said information about the identity of the man driving the car was not yet available as the case is still under investigation.
