Do you need a little musical motivation to get some work done? Whether you're a chronic procrastinator, the person who does an assignment right after it's assigned, or somewhere in between, we've got a playlist for you.

For the mellow morning studier

This playlist is a great way to get in the zone to knock out that assignment before your 10:20 a.m. class. Waking up to get work done in the morning is hard, and sometimes the dead silence is an eerie distraction. This folk playlist is the perfect background music to balance out the morning silence and help you focus.

For the optimistic afternoon studier

This playlist is perfect for the organized student. It’s just sunny enough to keep your mood up as you head back to your room immediately after class to get work done. The songs are happy and upbeat, but not distracting. And most of the artists are pretty underground so you won’t feel the urge to sing along.

If you’re crouched up on your bed and tempted to get under the covers and sleep instead of finishing those papers due tomorrow, try putting on this selection of electronic tracks. They’ll keep you in your chill state of mind and help you focus at the same time.

For the midnight procrastinator

As someone who has started work on a five-page paper at midnight countless times, I’ve finally got the music selection down pat. First, you start with fun anthem songs that you can dance around your room and sing along to. This may sound distracting, but it’s essential for boosting your mood and preventing you from passing out in your bed and giving up. Then, the playlist transitions into a softer but still upbeat selection of indie and folk. And finally, when it’s really time to cram, the “Pride and Prejudice” soundtrack will take you to the finish line. I’ve never been a huge fan of studying while listening to classical music, but this particular soundtrack has the perfect balance of an upbeat tempo and a melancholy vibe.
